Unhinged Joy Is the Assignment
Nov 01, 2025
I used to believe joy had to be earned.
Like… only after the to-do list was done.
Only if everything in life felt good enough.
Only when I had something to celebrate.
But lately?
I’ve been letting joy interrupt me.
I’ve been chasing the kinds of things that make no sense and all the difference.
The unnecessary, delightful, no-ROI kind of stuff.
So this is your invitation to join me.
Here’s my current Unhinged Joy Starter Pack — in case you need some inspiration to go off-script and feel alive again.
🌀 Danced across a field to Daft Punk. With my kid. In broad daylight. No audience but the sky. We looked unhinged. It was glorious.
🌀 Got the bob. Not the “safe mom cut.” The chic, French girl, side-eye in a coffee shop kind. 10/10. Recommend.
🌀 Said yes to luxury in a cup, a London Fog at 2pm from my local coffee shop. Because I am the main character.
🌀 Re-entered my extrovert era. After a long cocoon season, I’m showing up for IRL coffee dates, laughing with friends, having deep convos. It’s like my soul stretched and remembered how good connection feels.
🌀 Let my kids’ one-liners be medicine. Like when my 7-year-old shut down a convo about Halloween candy with “don’t even get me started on Kit Kats.” Icon behavior.
🌀 Laughed at a grumpy plumber. He was annoyed. I was amused. Life’s too short not to find it all a little bit hilarious.
Unhinged joy doesn’t have to cost much.
But not chasing it?
That’s the real loss.
So here’s your permission slip:
Make a playlist called Unhinged Joy Energy
Book the thing. Dance on the sidewalk. Send your friend a voice note in a fake accent. Wear the outfit that feels too much.
And let joy do its job — reminding you that you’re still wildly alive.
